Monthly Archives: September 2010

It’s Thursday which means BNI and the stars were still out. It was dark and cold and stars. Winter is finally here.

It was a good meeting today and I managed to pick up a new client for about 5 hours a month. We will have to go to site which is always fun.

I have been thinking about social media today and the amount of time we all put into our Twitters our Blogs ect. I then read an interesting article about tweets – Thanks aydinstone via his dail paper http://ow.ly/2MkbH

I have also spent some time clearing out my emails and it’s surprising how many little jobs I put off for a bit. It was wonderful to get them all over and done with.

I drove to London yesterday to visit a new client. I left the house at 7.45 thinking I had plenty of time as the journey should only take 90 minutes. No it took 180 minutes due to traffic jams on the M40, M25, M4 and the smaller roads. So why did the trip back only take 80 minutes back to the office. It has to be the powers that be telling me that no matter how well you plan you need to have a plan in place just in case things don’t go well. I did have a plan luckily and everything worked out well.

My new years resolution was to improve my communication with everyone. I think I have managed to do that but found myself zoning out of a conversation with someone who was trying to sell me something. The sales person wouldn’t take no for an answer and I don’t like to hang up. In the end I just let him carry on and I continued with my work load.

Got me thinking, (as you can tell if you have been reading this blog I am getting very reflective) how often do we zone out of a task we do on a daily basis and then find we do it wrong and have to re-do it. Try and find ways to do repeated tasks in a different way or time yourself and then stop. For example I have decided to read my emails in the morning, action the important ones. Then leave the less important ones. I have booked time in the diary to action the rest. I will let you know how it goes.

Also the sales person wouldn’t listen to my replies and just went through his script. He wasted my time and his. It’s always back to communication and listening.
